Exercise Log 1.22.14 (Bouldering!)

Quick exercise log today. In my rotation today was supposed to be arm day, and tomorrow development day. Well I put arm day back to tomorrow and decided to have some fun with some Meetup friends and go bouldering.

This was my first time doing indoor rock climbing. I kind of think it’s a cool idea for several reasons. One is it requires a lot from your body in ways you don’t normally exert yourself so I think it’s just a nice physical activity. Two unlike real rock climbing where slipping can mean catastrophe, and to do it well on a major rock face requires a ton of gear and experience and still can be risky, indoor rock climbing evokes the feeling you had playing in a schoolyard… only it’s more safe because the entire floor is a big sponge. You can still hurt yourself, but if you’re cautious you’ll do fine.

One thing I noticed was grip strength was definitely taxed here, and that’s important because I need better grip strength for weight training. I definitely felt like the workout from climbing up and down obstacles was taxing enough to be considered a proper workout, I realized somewhere during it that if I had done the intended arm day workout I would’ve been kind of screwed. It’s really a good thing that my arm days for the last couple months were improving my pullup ability, because that was definitely needed. Likewise my flexibility in my legs was important at a few points, just to reach more stable pegs to continue to climb.

All in all I had fun, and it was a great break from the monotony of the normal routines.

Socialism WORKS! is a short website presentation I put together years ago with help from a friend. It is something of a snarky take on Socialism, critical of the advantages of Socialism from various origins of the idea.
